On a nature hike with some of our pfo buddies.

Every Missionary Associate who is going on the field through Assemblies of God World Missions is required to attend Pre-Field Orientation.  It’s an 8 day training full of sessions designed to give you all the information that you need to make it out there in the wild world.  Dave, Samuel, and I attended PFO from March 15-23rd, and to be honest, we were kind of dreading it.  We had been to plenty of church conferences before, and we kind of invisioned this one to be full of red tape.  Lucky for us, overall, we were dead wrong.  We needed a bit of an attitude adjustment.

It was truely amazing to be with so many people who are passionate about missions.  Some, like us, had already visited the place they are going.  Others were assigned a place to go.  All of us, however, are excited about where God is sending us.  We learned so much during our training about the reasons why AGWM has specific policies about specific things.  We learned who to contact about filing income taxes when you live out of the country.  We learned how much bleach to use when disinfecting our fruits and veggies.  The most important thing we learned, however, is that we are not alone.  There are many others across the USA who are preparing to leave just like us.  It was so nice to be able to talk with them about newsletters, fundraising, packing and all the other details that are filling up our lives these days.

It’s kind of strange being home now after being gone for most of the month.  Tomorrow Dave goes to the lawyer to sign the papers and close on our house.  Things are becomming very official around here and soon we will be official residents of Niger.  I can’t wait.

California

We are having a blast in sunny California. The weather has been gorgeous every single day. We have visited cousins and friends. We have been to San Diego, LA, Palm Springs, the Pacific Coast Highway, San Jose and now Oakland. Tomorrow I think we are going to take a boat to Alcatraz. Sam is having fun, but sometimes gets sick of riding in the car. He has been singing a lot on this trip, he takes after his mommy. Our favorite part so far has been the Pacific Coast Highway. What a beautiful road. We have only 4 days left before we have to leave, so hopefully we can cram as much stuff into these next couple days as possible.
