oh what joy!

Christmas Eve we went with Amina and Jeremy’s family to the orphanage to distribute the gifts bought for the kids by their sponsors.  I can’t tell you what an overwhelming joy this was for us.  I had child after child thanking me for their presents, “Merci Tanti!”  I kept trying to explain to them that it wasn’t me, but another Tanti in America that sent them the gifts.  We were all thankful.  Pictures say it better.

paint the town red

I know I’ve been posting about Samuel a lot, but he is what’s going on in my world.  Most days, Dave goes to work while Sam and I hang out around the house.   We will have some really great posts coming up about the fun ways we’ve been able to celebrate Christmas with the orphans, pastors kids, and others here in Niamey.  For now, I thought you might like a glimpse into my morning with Sam.

Auntie Nicole brought Sam some paints when she came to visit, and Mommy has been hesitating to pull them out of the closet.  BUT today felt like a good day for painting, so I got them out and let him literally paint the town red (or at least the kitchen table).  Good thing they’re washable!

I think he really looks like an Egliht in this one for some reason.

footy-pjs.JPG

A few nights ago, I took this picture of Sam wearing his footy pjs for the first time. He loves them!  It’s just cool enough at night that he can wear them without sweating. I’ve been hearing reports of snow north of D.C. along the East Coast, and I have to say I’m a little jealous. We’ve gotten our Christmas cards all ready, and some little elves are addressing them and getting them sent out to you. If you have a Christmas card you would like to send us, please do. It only costs $.90 and takes about 3 weeks. We promise not to complain if cards arrive after the holidays. We would be happy to get the mail.  Our address is Dave and Hope Johansson/ B.P. 10615/ Niamey, Niger

My favorite quote this holiday is from the movie Elf. Buddy says, “You’re so pretty! You should be on a Christmas Card!” What a great movie! Thanks for sending it, Mom.
